Invisible borders often run along a street, and such is the case of Calle Atocha in Madrid. A terrorist attack during the Transition years between Franco’s dictatorship and democracy made it a political border between “two Spains” that have still not fully bridged the gap. Today, the invisible border here (as it is in too many European cities) is a socio-economic one. Cultural and artistic organizations have a responsibility to denounce these invisible borders, whether political or socio-economic.
